““Ultimately, the only power to which man should aspire is that which he exercises over himself.”” –Elie Wiesel
There is ONE fact that I know about virtually every person on this planet.
It doesn’t matter where they come from… or their background… or what country they live in.
It doesn’t matter how much money they make… or what race they are… or what their gender is.
The fact is this: In some shape or form, most people would like to feel like they are important in life.
There is nothing wrong with this… in fact, I personally think that this is a good trait to have. And for different people… importance will mean different things.
Some get their feelings of importance from their jobs, their careers, how many people they manage or businesses they run.
Others get it from serving others, or raising the best children or by how athletically gifted they are.
But when it comes down to it — we can’t ever reach and grasp that level of importance in our lives… unless we have improve our self-control.
Self Control is defined as, “…the ability to control one’s emotions, behavior and desires in order to obtain some reward later”
Everybody wants to be rich… but does everybody save, budget their money, invest or create businesses that create quality products and/or services… that people will happily pay them money for?
Virtually every man wants to have the biggest and most sculpted muscles… and every woman wants to be slim, fat-free and have a beautiful hour-glass shape… but are they willing to go to the gym throughout the week, or hit the track or jogging trail, break a sweat or gain control over their eating & nutrition habits?
Everybody wants to feel loved by others… but does everybody first make time for other people in their life, and show the same love to others… that they wish others to reciprocate to them?
It is through having a mindset and a habit of improving our self-control… that we are able to become the important individuals that we seek to become.
Self-control is truly the power that anyone can gain control of in their life… that will allow them to pattern their lives according to what that person wants!
But how many people are willing to pay the price for improving their self-control? For the most part, people want things fast… and they want things NOW.
But you are different, my friend. Just by reading this blog, you are showing that you have initiative… and you have what it takes to reach the top. You are truly the TOP 1% of people who aim to better themselves and devote themselves to personal growth!
So here are 5 tips on how you can have more self-control in your life:
1. Write down all the reasons why you want to attain a certain goal.
2. Congratulate yourself anytime you complete a task that leads you to fulfilling that goal.
3. Imagine yourself having reached that goal already and feel the feelings of reaching that goal.
4. If other people, circumstances, feelings or thoughts come against you that are contrary to you reaching your goal — quickly dismiss it.
5. Make sure you truly believe in that goal you have — because to truly have self control in that area, you must believe in it full-heartedly. This is the most important step in my opinion, because if you don’t truly believe in something… it will be easy for you to fall to the wayside when troubles come.
